WILMINGTON – A teen is in custody tonight after Grundy County Sheriff’s Deputies received word of a possible threat of bodily harm to a student at Gardner South Wilmington High School.

According to the Grundy County Sheriff’s office, Deputies responded shortly after 2:30pm Wednesday with “a strong presence” to an area just south of Gardner South Wilmington High School.

“Deputies were able to identify the individual suspected of making the threats toward the student. Within twenty-five minutes from the time the information was received; the Grundy County Proactive Unit and Morris Police Department located the suspect, 18-year-old Christian Kaebel-Jones, in Morris, IL and he was taken into custody on an outstanding Cole’s County warrant for Assault.” Grundy County Sheriff’s said in a statement Wednesday afternoon.

Kaebel-Jones was arrested on multiple charges in October 2020, including possession of a stolen firearm.

Several area schools were placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure at the time. Additional charges are pending an investigation.
