CHAMPAIGN, IL – A man arrested Saturday suddenly died in jail hours later. The sudden death at the Champaign County Jail has prompted an investigation by the Illinois State Police.
According to reports it began early Sunday morning, at around 2:30 a.m., correctional staff discovered an inmate unresponsive in their cell. Despite immediate intervention by both jail staff and emergency medical crews, revival attempts proved futile.
Authorities suspect a potential medical crisis as the cause but has entrusted the Illinois State Police with a comprehensive probe. The inmate, remains unnamed as authorities await family notification.
