Schererville, IN – The Schererville Police Department is warning residents about a Social Security fraud scam after a complainant reported being contacted by someone claiming to be from the Social Security Administration.

According to reports, the complainant was told that they were being investigated for having too many bank accounts and for money laundering, and that all of their bank accounts would be frozen. The caller then transferred the complainant to someone claiming to be a “Federal Marshall” who suggested they transfer their money into a “more secure account.”

Officers are reminding residents to never give out personal information over the phone and to report any suspicious calls or activity to the authorities.
