KANKAKEE – Stormy weather caused several trees to be scattered knocking out power for area residents Wednesday afternoon across the county.

According to Comed, nearly 6,000 area residents in Kankakee County have been effected by the power outages as crews work to restore power.  Over 4,000 of those outages have been reported in the city of Kankakee.

The Kankakee County Sheriff’s Office reported damage included downed wires at the Southbound ramp to I-57 at Court Street.  Police have closed off the ramp temporarily and are asking residents to avoid the area.

Meanwhile damage from the storm resulted in the Chief Judge at the Kankakee County Courthouse to close the Courthouse for the remainder of the day.  Anyone with business in court is asked to contact the Circuit Clerk’s Office for further instruction.
