With 53 symptomatic, Shapiro begins daily alerts with Staff in COVID-19 outbreak

Shapiro Developmental Center announced on Saturday they will begin alerting staff daily on the continued outbreak of COVID-19 at the Center among both residents and staff.

On Saturday, Shapiro Center Directro Lynn Gund alerted employees the Facility’s case count has risen to 16 overall, including 7 residents and 9 Shapiro staff.  All are now in isolation.  Additionally, 53 residents are now in isolation due to signs exibitted of symptoms of COVID-19.

The outbreak at Shapiro is one of several communal living facilities across Illinois dealing with COVID-19, including Statesville Prison, the Manteno Prince Home supporting the Veterans Home in Manteno, and the Cook County Jail, which according to reports by CBS2 earlier this morning, currently supports 220 detainees and 67 staff members who have tested positive for the Virus.
