Kankakee led COVID deaths by Zip in County for 2020, Riverside led location

BOURBONNAIS – It’s a wrap on COVID-19 in 2020, at least for official record-keeping purposes that is.

Kankakee County Coroner Bob Gessner announced local totals of COVID-19 deaths during the 2020 year Monday, which runs from December 1st, 2019 to November 29th, 2020, which the area saw 125 COVID-19 deaths.

Among notable findings from the Coroner’s annual report included the most COVID-19 deaths per zip code. Kankakee leads the category with 49 deaths locally, followed by Manteno (25), Bourbonnais (18), Bradley (10), and Momence (5). The average death in Kankakee County was 80 years old, with the youngest 38 and the oldest 100.

By location, Riverside Medical Center led the area with 38 deaths, followed by AMITA St. Mary’s with 28. Other locations rounding out the top five included Riverside’s Miller Health Care Center with 25 deaths, the Illinois Veterans Home at Manteno with 17 deaths, and Citadel of Bourbonnais with five deaths.

By the month, November was Kankakee’s deadliest month, with 45 officially record COVID-19 deaths. Followed by April (29), May (28), June (7), and October (6), with the single most deaths coming just one day before the end of the 2020 report on November 28th, when five residents succumbed to the virus.


Since the beginning of FY2021 on December 1st, there have been 19 COVID-19 deaths already locally.
