KANKAKEE – The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) reported Region 7 with the lowest ICU bed availability in the state on Wednesday at 25%.
Illinois’ warning levels for ICU availability is 20%.
The news comes as Region 7 seven-day positivity rates continue to climb, now at 8.7% Wednesday, marking the 10th straight day of positivity increases in the Region. On Wednesday, Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) reported 4,342 new confirmed cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Illinois, including 69 additional deaths from 32 counties across Illinois.
New mitigation efforts are set to begin on Friday. A measure local restaurants and bars throughout Region 7 are flaunting on social media Wednesday, with many reporting they will not comply with IDPH health guidance efforts.
Kankakee County Health Department reported a surge in hospitalizations for the disease this week, posting record numbers of COVID-19 admissions. As of Tuesday afternoon, 28 residents occupying beds in Kankakee hospitals related to onset conditions of the virus.
IDPH reports Kankakee County’s last daily positivity rating for October 18th at 9.3%, with Will County reporting an 8.3% daily rating on the day. Seven-day positivity levels for both counties now sit at 7.3% (Kankakee) and 9% (Will) respectively.
