BRADLEY – Bradley-Bourbonnais Community High School is moving to remote learning, beginning Thursday.

“Wednesday, August 26th BBCHS will be using a remote planning day for teachers. Therefore, there will be no instruction for students.” Superintendent Dr. Scott Wakeley said in a press release Tuesday night.  “Beginning Thursday, August 27th BBCHS will continue by utilizing our Remote Learning Plan.”

Dr. Wakely indicated in a letter to parents Tuesday the current intent is to not stay out, but go back to blended learning once numbers drop. The move from blended to remote learning is part of a fluid process subject to change based on. guidelines from the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), and other local agencies.

“This is an extremely difficult decision that was reached based on many considerations and conversations.” Wakeley said in the release.  “Our expectation is to make a return on September 10, 2020 to in-person blended learning after these new mitigation requirements from the governor are lifted. We recognize that there is no escaping inevitable positive COVID-19 cases even upon our return.”

The move comes hours after Gov. J.B. Pritzker announced new mitigation restrictions for the South Suburban Region 7, which includes Kankakee County. Among new migitations includes limited gatherings, including less than 25 people or 25 percent capacity per building.

Since Monday, 70 new cases of COVID-19 have been announced in Kankakee County, including 18 new cases announced Tuesday.

Last Friday in a letter to parents, BBCHS reported it’s first case of COVID-19 among it’s community.

“We appreciate your patience and support. We ask that you partner with us in following IDPH guidelines in order to do our part in keeping this virus under control. Stay safe!” Dr. Wakeley told the BBCHS community Tuesday night.
