Chicago Men Charged in Elmhurst Business Break-In Attempt; Police Chase Ensues

Elmhurst, IL – Two Chicago men face burglary charges following an alleged attempted break-in at a business on W. Diversey Avenue in Elmhurst. 

The incident occurred early on December 7, with Elmhurst Police responding to a burglar alarm. Steven Smith, 33, and Deevven Q. Harris, 28, allegedly attempted to enter the premises, triggering a police pursuit. Smith was apprehended near the scene, while Harris fled in a vehicle, leading to a chase involving tire deflation devices and assistance from state and local police. Harris faces additional charges related to the pursuit. 

Both were released on pretrial conditions, and the investigation is ongoing, with evidence being collected and analyzed. The public is reminded of the presumption of innocence until proven guilty.
