McHenry County, IL – The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and the Major Investigations Assistance Team (MIAT) have officially closed the book on the devastating family shooting incident that occurred in August in unincorporated Crystal Lake.

According to the authorities, the tragic event took place in the early hours of August 9, around 3:56 a.m., on the 5800 block of Wild Plum Road. Responding to gunshots reports, deputies found a heart-wrenching scene: three women deceased, another critically injured, and the male shooter, also seriously wounded. All involved were identified as family members.

The subsequent investigation determined the cause to be a domestic dispute that tragically escalated. The male shot the four women, leading to three deaths, before shooting himself. He later died in hospital, while the surviving female has since been released.

There were no prior incidents recorded at this location by the Sheriff’s Office. The shooter was reported to have a valid FOID card and Illinois Concealed Carry License. The investigation highlighted potential mental health issues faced by the shooter at the time.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office emphasized the community’s access to mental health resources and expressed gratitude to MIAT, the Crystal Lake Police Department, and all emergency personnel involved in the response and investigation of this tragic incident.
