SIU Students from Park Ridge, Des Plaines Killed in Carbondale Truck Collision

Park Ridge, IL / Des Plaines, IL – In a devastating head-on collision in Carbondale, two students originally from Park Ridge and Des Plaines tragically lost their lives. 

The accident, involving two trucks, occurred at approximately 7:45 a.m. Monday in the 1500 block of North Illinois Avenue. The deceased, identified by the Jackson County Coroner’s Office as Wolfgang W. Gustaveson, 19, from Park Ridge, and Francis M. Martinez, 18, from Des Plaines, were students at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. An occupant of the other vehicle was seriously injured and is being treated at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. 

Authorities in Carbondale have extended their deepest sympathies to the families and are encouraging anyone with information about the incident to contact the local police.
