ADDISON, IL – Addison Police Department, alongside multiple local enforcement and fire department units, showcased exceptional coordination and quick action to avert a potential tragedy in Addison on Wednesday afternoon. A man was observed in a precarious position, attempting to scale the outer fence of the Mill Road overpass, signaling a possible suicide attempt above I-290.

According to Addison police reports, the critical incident occurred around 1:45 PM, prompting the immediate closure of all lanes of I-290 in both directions and Mill Road to ensure public and the individual’s safety. This swift move enabled the Illinois State Police, Itasca Police, Wood Dale Police, Bensenville Police, and fire departments from Addison, Itasca, and Bloomingdale to effectively address the situation.

Thanks to the rapid intervention and compassionate negotiations by paramedics and officers on site, the man was encouraged to disengage from the fence and was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation.
