Illinois Man Detained Following Alleged Hoax Shooting Call Leading to Standoff, No Gun Found

Peoria, IL – A fabricated emergency call about a shooting led to the arrest of an Illinois man on Wednesday. 

According to Peoria police reports, Geno Carter, 32, allegedly reported a false shooting in the 1200 block of W. Gift, prompting an immediate response from Peoria Police around 10:24 a.m. Carter was seen fleeing the scene, initiating a pursuit that culminated in a standoff. After allegedly threatening officers and a brief negotiation, he later surrendered. Despite the serious allegations, no weapon was discovered at the scene. 

Carter faces charges including Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer and Disorderly Conduct for the fake report, alongside other offenses from a prior incident. He is currently held at the Peoria County Jail, as police continue to urge the public to report any information related to violent crimes.
