WATSEKA, IL – Halloween festivities were momentarily overshadowed in downtown Watseka when a utility pole at Second and Walnut caught fire, plunging the area into darkness.

The Watseka Fire Department rushed to the scene Tuesday afternoon after a small fire, ignited by a back feed to the ground, damaged the pole. The blaze was extinguished but later reignited, leading to a power outage that affected a three-block area on the north side of Walnut.

No word on what caused the fire.  Emergency crews and workers quickly tackled the rekindled fire, restoring power swiftly. Despite the eerie timing and potential danger, the incident was resolved without any reported injuries.
