Watseka, IL – The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) is slated to conduct a one-day Basic Cemetery Preservation Workshop in Watseka, Illinois, on June 14, 2024. 

The workshop, part of a statewide initiative to protect and preserve historic cemeteries, will be led by renowned experts Dawn Cobb and John Heider. 

According to IDNR announcements, the session will cover essential techniques such as cleaning, documenting, and resetting gravestones, ensuring that local volunteers and caretakers are well-equipped to maintain the historical integrity of these sites.

Participants will be provided with the tools to properly manage the upkeep of Watseka’s storied cemeteries, reinforcing the community’s connection to its rich past. Interested individuals are encouraged to secure their free permits in adherence to the Human Remains Protection Act, with further details and registration guidelines accessible through the IDNR’s website.
