Deer Park, IL – A potentially disastrous collision was narrowly averted when a Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy’s vehicle was hit during a traffic stop.

On Sunday night just past 8:30 p.m., the deputy had reportedly stopped a car with suspended registration on Route 12 near Long Grove Road. Both deputies on scene had activated their emergency lights when a southbound Hyundai, driven by an 80-year-old Park Ridge man, reportedly collided with the open door of the backup deputy’s squad car.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office reported that thankfully, there were no injuries from the incident.

The Hyundai driver received a citation for failing to comply with ‘Scott’s Law’, which requires motorists to shift lanes or slow down for stationary emergency vehicles. This close call serves as a crucial reminder for all drivers to observe traffic laws designed to protect those who serve and assist on our roads.
