Elgin, IL – The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is inviting public input on a major infrastructure project aimed at improving the U.S. 20 ramps at Illinois and Lavoie avenues in Kane County. A public hearing is scheduled to discuss the proposed changes and gather feedback from community members and stakeholders.
According to IDOT, the public hearing will take place on Thursday, April 25, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at The Centre of Elgin, located at 100 Symphony Way. The event will offer an opportunity for residents to learn about the project development process, review the preferred design alternatives, and voice their opinions. Materials and exhibits will be on display to provide detailed information about the project, which is part of IDOT’s Proposed Highway Improvement Program for fiscal years 2024-2029.
IDOT’s current efforts are directed towards preparing for a construction contract letting in 2025, dependent on plan readiness and available funding through annual legislative appropriations. The project is expected to entail the closure of the existing ramps and modifications to the surrounding roadways to support the changes. Public participation is seen as a vital component of the project study phase.
