Illinois Driving Alert: Safety Tips for Navigating Rural Roads During Planting Season

Kane County, IL – As Illinois farmers commence the critical planting season, drivers across the state are urged to exercise caution on rural roads. Farm vehicles, which travel significantly slower than cars, require motorists to be alert and responsive to prevent accidents.

Local safety experts advise against assuming that farmers can immediately move over to allow passing, particularly on roads with unstable shoulders. Drivers should slow down, maintain a safe distance, and fully assess a farmer’s movements before attempting to pass.

Misjudging a farm vehicle’s intentions, especially near turns, could lead to dangerous situations.

Motorists are encouraged to remain patient and enjoy the scenic drive, as following a farm vehicle for a short distance usually only adds a few minutes to travel time. Evening hours pose additional risks as farmers return from fields and lower visibility increases the potential for accidents.
