Waukegan, IL – A morning crash involving a dump truck and a sedan left two dead and resulted in a spill of concrete at the intersection of Fairfield Road and Chardon Road in unincorporated Wauconda.

The incident was reported by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and occurred shortly after 8:00 a.m. today.

The collision unfolded when a 2007 Nissan Versa, driven by a 48-year-old woman from Waukegan, failed to yield at a stop sign and entered the path of a northbound Mack dump truck. The impact caused the dump truck to tip over, spilling its load of concrete onto the roadway.

The Nissan’s driver and a 55-year-old female passenger from Round Lake Beach were pronounced dead at the scene. A second passenger, a 45-year-old woman from Round Lake Beach, was transported to a hospital with serious injuries, later updated to non-life-threatening. The dump truck driver was not injured.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team is currently investigating the crash, and autopsies for the deceased are pending.
