Lockport Township, IL – John P. Shadbar, 70, of Lockport Township, has been charged with attempted first degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon following a barricade situation.
According to Will County Sheriff’s Police the incident occurred on May 7, 2024, around 5:37 PM at 144th Place and Rickerman Road in Unincorporated Lockport Township, as detailed by the Will County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities responded to a shots fired complaint and discovered a 45-year-old woman critically injured from multiple gunshot wounds. According to witnesses, Shadbar, armed with an assault-style rifle, had been allegedly shooting at the victim from various outside locations on his property. After the attack, he briefly barricaded himself inside his residence but was coaxed out peacefully by a crisis negotiator who reportedly recorded several incriminating statements made by Shadbar.
Local law enforcement swiftly secured the area, and the victim was rushed to the hospital, where she is currently recovering after undergoing surgery. The ongoing investigation has unearthed video surveillance footage supporting the allegations, with detectives still at the scene awaiting to execute a search warrant for further evidence.
This incident, believed to be racially motivated, has shaken the community, and additional charges are anticipated.
