Lake County, IL – 79-Year-Old Man Arrested on Domestic Charges After Incident with Cane, Knife

Gurnee, IL – Police arrested 79-year-old Robert E. Derham late Thursday night following a domestic dispute where he allegedly assaulted a 59-year-old woman with a cane and threatened her with a knife. 

According to Gurnee police reports the incident occurred in the 2400 block of Wembley Ct., leading to a tense standoff. Officers, forced to intervene by entering the home, reported that Derham barred the woman from exiting, escalating the situation despite police commands. In the process, a responding officer sustained a minor injury.

Derham faces several charges, including domestic battery with bodily harm, aggravated assault, and resisting a police officer. Concurrently, a second individual, Henry Diaz, 50, was arrested on an unrelated warrant during the police action.
