Lake County, IL – Gurnee Middle School Malfunction Leads to Lockdown

Lake County, IL – Woodland Middle School in Gurnee faced a lockdown caused by a security system malfunction. According to the Gurnee Police Department, on April 8, 2024, a false emergency announcement was issued school-wide at around 11:20 AM due to the new security system’s error. 

The lockdown lasted slightly over an hour, with police conducting a methodical search and confirming the absence of any threat by 12:24 PM. 

Students and staff were declared safe, and normal school activities resumed shortly thereafter. The police are now assessing the incident with the school to prevent future false alarms.
