Long Grove, IL – Early Wednesday morning, a suspected road rage incident escalated into a chaotic multi-vehicle collision on Route 83 at Gilmer Road, involving a garbage truck among other vehicles. Lake County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the scene at around 7:00 a.m., following reports of reckless driving.
According to preliminary findings, a 48-year-old Grayslake man driving a Chevrolet Blazer, alongside a black sedan, were both seen traveling southbound at high speeds. Witnesses described the vehicles weaving dangerously through traffic. Near Gilmer Road, the Chevrolet driver made a sharp lane switch, clipping the sedan and causing his vehicle to roll over. This initial crash led to the Chevrolet colliding with two other vehicles waiting to turn, which were subsequently pushed back into a garbage truck and a box truck.
The incident resulted in four people being hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, including the Chevrolet driver who had to be extricated from his vehicle. The drivers of the garbage and box trucks were unharmed. Authorities noted that the black sedan’s driver fled the scene; an investigation is ongoing, and criminal charges are anticipated.
