Will County, IL – Outdoor enthusiasts across Joliet, Bolingbrook, Plainfield, and surrounding areas will find a full lineup of nature programs this week as the Forest Preserve District of Will County rolls out events from May 14 through May 17.
According to the Forest Preserve District of Will County, the schedule includes a mix of guided hikes, wildlife viewing, and hands-on activities designed for all ages, with many events offered free of charge.
One highlight is the Sensory Night Hike on Thursday, May 14, at Hammel Woods in Shorewood, where participants can تجربه the forest after dark under a nearly new moon. The guided hike focuses on engaging the senses along both paved and natural trails.
On Saturday, May 16, anglers can take part in the Adult Fishing Derby at Hidden Lakes Trout Farm in Bolingbrook. The event includes two timed sessions and prizes for the biggest catch, with bait provided for registered participants.
Bird watchers can head to Lake Renwick Heron Rookery Nature Preserve in Plainfield the same day for a chance to view nesting herons, egrets, and possibly bald eagles during limited viewing hours.
Additional programs include wildflower hikes in Romeoville and Channahon, a living history experience exploring plant uses in the 1700s, and a teen-focused drop-in event in Crete Township aimed at relaxation and outdoor engagement.
