Urbana, IL – A missing Illinois teen refugee, last seen in Urbana, has been located and subsequently arrested in New York City. Fourteen-year-old Tiago Zumarraga-Mosquera, originally reported missing on April 21, was apprehended by NYPD on charges stemming from an alleged incident in the Queens borough.

According to Urbana Police, Tiago had briefly communicated with his mother via Facebook Messenger after his disappearance, stating he was in the Urbana-Champaign area but refused to return home. The circumstances of his travel to New York are still under investigation. Urbana PD has deferred all inquiries regarding the arrest to NYPD, emphasizing their non-involvement in the criminal investigation of another jurisdiction.
