Joliet, Illinois – An officer-involved shooting occurred in Joliet on December 13, 2023, following a 911 report of a man with a handgun outside a residence.
According to police reports the incident unfolded around 8:41 AM at the 1100 block of North Center Street. According to reports, the suspect, described as a black male, was seen pointing a handgun at a residence and later forcibly entered it. An officer, arriving at the scene, encountered the suspect in the rear of the residence. Despite repeated commands to drop the weapon, the suspect advanced towards the officer, leading to the officer discharging their firearm, striking the suspect once. The suspect received medical attention on site and was later taken to a local hospital in stable condition.
The officer was also hospitalized as per department policy. The Will Grundy Major Crimes Task Force is investigating the incident. Authorities assure there is no ongoing public threat, and charges against the suspect are pending. Further updates will be provided by the Task Force.
