Tornado Strikes Rock Island County Illinois, Leaving Thousands Without Power Friday

Rock Island, IL – A tornado touched down near Coyne Center early Friday morning, causing significant damage and power outages across Rock Island County.

According to a report from the Rock Island County Sheriff’s Office, the tornado struck around 8:06 a.m., confirmed by a trained weather spotter from the National Weather Service.

Approximately 2,249 residents are without power, and debris has littered the area, including a heavily damaged pole barn and several smaller structures. The National Weather Service will conduct a survey later today to assess the full extent of the tornado’s impact. The public is advised to avoid the affected area until it is deemed safe.
