Scottsburg, IN – A tragic domestic incident resulted in the death of a local man in Scott County early Tuesday morning. The Scott County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies were dispatched to a residence on East State Road 56 just east of Scottsburg at around 1:00 AM following reports of gunfire.

Upon arrival, law enforcement found Edward M. Calton, 49, suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency responders rushed Calton to Scott Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead despite lifesaving efforts. The sheriff’s office quickly secured the area and requested investigative support from the Indiana State Police (ISP).

The ISP has taken over the investigation into what led to this deadly confrontation. While the details surrounding the shooting are still under scrutiny, preliminary findings suggest that the incident was isolated with no ongoing threat to the community. The investigators are urging anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist by contacting the Indiana State Police at 812-246-5424.
