BLOOMINGTON, IN – A man with a warrant out for his arrest reportedly led deputies from Monroe and Marion Counties on a chase Friday morning. The pursuit ended unexpectedly when he dove into Lake Lemon, attempting to swim to freedom.

According to Monroe County Sheriff’s Police reports, the waters weren’t in his favor. As he struggled amidst the waves, deputies, backed by the Monroe Fire Protection District, ironically transitioned from pursuers to rescuers, pulling the suspect to safety.

Once back on dry land, Matthew Fischman, 37 of Unionville, faced a slew of charges including Battery by means of a deadly weapon along with two counts of resisting arrest.

Remarkably, despite the high-speed pursuit and dramatic water escape, there were no reported injuries. However a total of four cars involved in the chase were damaged in the chase, including one that was hit by a deer.
