Lake County, IN – Indianapolis Woman Allegedly Pepper-Sprays Employees, Steals 19 Bottles of Alcohol

Schererville, IN – An audacious theft at a Schererville Walgreens turned violent when a woman allegedly used pepper spray on employees while making off with 19 bottles of alcohol. 

According to Schererville Police Department reports, the incident unfolded at approximately 8:15 PM on March 11, at the store located at 651 W US HWY 30. Identified as Jazmyne Peoples of Indianapolis, the suspect was confronted by employees during the act and responded by repeatedly deploying pepper spray to escape.

Following a swift response to the robbery report, law enforcement officials located Peoples and her vehicle near the intersection of US HWY 30 and Robin Hood Blvd., culminating in her arrest. The Lake County Prosecutor’s Office has filed several charges against Peoples, including Armed Robbery and Battery by Means of a Deadly Weapon, with additional charges pending against a male accomplice.

The stolen property, consisting of 19 bottles of alcohol valued at $611, was successfully recovered and returned to Walgreens. The police department praised the efforts of their personnel, especially Officer Ruzga from the Cross Trained Detective (CTD) Program, for their role in the investigation and arrest, highlighting the effective teamwork with the St. John Police Department.
