Kankakee, IL – Two YMCA facilities in Kankakee now offer free internet access as part of Comcast’s Lift Zone program. The Kankakee Area YMCA and the YMCA Childcare Center have been equipped with WiFi to help local students with their studies and support families in developing digital skills. These centers join a network of over 1,250 Lift Zones nationwide, including nearly 90 in the surrounding region, aimed at enhancing digital accessibility.
“The new Lift Zones will support our efforts to equip the people of Kankakee County with the crucial tools that they need to succeed in our increasingly digital world,” said Will Welsh, Kankakee Area YMCA Chief Executive Officer. “We appreciate Comcast’s continued partnership and support for our initiatives to advance digital equity in the communities we serve.”
In addition to the Lift Zones, the Kankakee Area YMCA benefited from a $7,500 Comcast grant last year, aimed at bolstering its Teen Employment Readiness program. This program is designed to teach digital skills to high school and college students, preparing them for future employment opportunities.
