Indiana School Bus Tragedy: Student killed after hit by Bus While on Scooter

LaPorte, IN – An Indiana community is grappling with an unforeseen tragedy after a student was hit by a school bus last Friday. 

Julien Hernandez, a 10th-grade student at LaPorte High School, was tragically killed during the incident. According to police reports, the 15-year-old was on a scooter at the crossroads of Michigan and South Avenues when the accident occurred.

In a statement, LaPorte Community Schools expressed their deep sorrow: “We are deeply saddened to confirm the tragic loss of a tenth-grade student at La Porte High School. This loss has greatly impacted our community, and our thoughts and hearts are with the student’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.” 

The district is marshaling all available resources, including the support of teachers, counselors, and social workers. They also extended heartfelt gratitude to the Swanson Center and New Prairie United Schools for their steadfast support in these trying times. As the investigation into the accident continues, the school has appealed for respect and privacy for the bereaved family.
