Muncie Teen Shot, Killed after Shootout with Officers: Indiana State Police

NEW PITTSBURG, Ind. – A 19-year-old teen, reportedly armed with a gun, was fatally shot Tuesday afternoon in an encounter with law enforcement. 

According to Indiana State Police reports, Brayden Daniel Barnhouse of Muncie was the focus of an overdose call on E. Elm Street around 4:56 p.m., which led Randolph County deputies to initiate a search. They located Barnhouse near Main and First Street. Moments after making contact, Barnhouse allegedly armed with a Glock 17, 9mm handgun, fired at two officers.

The deputies retaliated, resulting in Barnhouse’s fatal injury. One officer sustained minor injuries in the incident. Both officers have been placed on administrative leave while an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
