Clay County, FL – A rapidly growing wildfire in Northeast Florida has expanded after two separate fires merged, prompting evacuations and road closures across parts of Clay and Putnam counties.
According to the Florida Forest Service, the Crews Road Fire and the Railroad Complex Fire combined Monday into what is now being called the “Railroad Fire.” The blaze has burned approximately 3,000 acres and is currently about 10% contained.
Fire officials say the situation remains dynamic, with erratic fire behavior and active flare-ups reported. Ground crews and aerial resources are working around the clock to slow the spread, including dozens of personnel, heavy equipment, helicopters, and large air tankers.
Authorities have issued voluntary evacuation orders in several areas, including parts of Bostwick, with a shelter established at the Bostwick Community Center in Palatka. Residents in affected zones are urged to stay alert and be prepared to leave if conditions worsen.
Road closures are in place along portions of U.S. Highway 17 due to reduced visibility from smoke, and some railway operations have been suspended in the area.
According to officials, additional resources continue to be deployed as firefighters prioritize structure protection and containment efforts. Conditions may change quickly depending on weather and fire activity.
Residents are encouraged to monitor official updates and avoid impacted areas as emergency crews continue suppression efforts.
