Porter County, IN – Fatal Shooting Claims Life of Hammond Man

Hammond, IN – In the early hours of Monday, a fatal shooting occurred in Portage, Indiana, leaving a man from Hammond dead. At around 12:35 a.m., Portage Police Department officers were called to a residence on the 5300 block of Aspen Avenue following reports of a shooting. 

Upon arrival, they discovered an adult male with a gunshot wound. Despite immediate medical efforts by the officers, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Captain Rob Maynard, Public Information Officer for the Portage Police Department, the incident appears to be an isolated event, involving only individuals who were present at the time. 

Authorities have identified a person of interest, but they believe there is no active threat to the community. The investigation into the shooting is still underway, and further details will be released following family notification by the Coroner’s Office.
