Valparaiso Resident Identified as Suspect Fatally Shot in Officer-Involved Shooting

Valparaiso, IN – The Porter County Coroner’s Office has identified the individual fatally shot in an officer-involved incident near Fairgrounds Park in Valparaiso. The deceased was identified as 20-year-old Caden Mura of Valparaiso, confirmed by Deputy Coroner Kristi Chervenak late Thursday night.

The incident, which involved a foot chase and subsequent exchange of gunfire with local law enforcement, occurred earlier in the day. After the shootout, Mura was transported to the Northwest Health Hospital in Valparaiso, where he was pronounced dead. The events leading up to the shooting began when Valparaiso Police and the Porter County Sheriff’s Department responded to reports of a suspicious person armed with a handgun near Fairgrounds Park.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Indiana State Police, with assistance from the Porter County Coroner’s Office. The cause and manner of Mura’s death are pending the results of an autopsy and toxicology tests. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
