Quick Response by Chesterton Fire Department Contains Vehicle Blaze on Ind. 49 Exit Ramp

Chesterton, IN – The Chesterton Fire Department (CFD) responded to a vehicle fire on the exit ramp of northbound Ind. 49 from westbound I-94 at 7:47 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 10. Engine 510 was dispatched to the scene, where they found the vehicle’s engine compartment engulfed in flames. 

According to reports the car’s owner was found safe, standing away from the blaze. Firefighters effectively extinguished the fire using 350 gallons of water, with the fire declared out at 8:04 a.m. and the scene cleared by 8:27 a.m. 

The vehicle, a Kia Soul, suffered significant damage estimated at $10,500, primarily confined to the engine and passenger compartments. The CFD efficiently managed the situation, ensuring no further incidents or injuries occurred.
