South Bend, IN – Bomb Squad Investigates Suspicious Device at Scrap Metal Facility

South Bend, IN – A suspicious device was reported at a scrap metal processing facility in the 1300 block of Prairie Avenue on Friday, leading to a swift response from the South Bend Police Department’s Bomb Squad and patrol officers.

According to the South Bend Police Department, employees discovered what they believed to be a pipe bomb among scrap metal at around 2 p.m. However, after a thorough investigation, officers determined that the item was not a live device. No injuries were reported.

Authorities remind the public to call 9-1-1 immediately if they encounter any potentially dangerous or explosive items.
