Illinois Hunter Dies in Accidental Shooting at Iowa Wildlife Area

Chesterfield, Illinois – An Illinois man was fatally shot in a hunting incident on Saturday in Guthrie County, Iowa. 

According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Seth Egelhoff, 26, of Chesterfield, Illinois, suffered a gunshot wound to the face while waterfowl hunting at Bays Branch Wildlife Area. The emergency call was received around 1:00 pm, and Egelhoff was subsequently transported by Panora EMS. Despite life-saving efforts en route to Life Flight, he was pronounced deceased shortly after leaving the scene.

The Iowa DNR Law Enforcement Bureau is leading the investigation into this incident, with assistance from the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Department, Panora EMS, and Iowa State Patrol. The incident appears to be accidental, as stated by DNR Conservation Officer Jeremy King. Bays Branch Wildlife Area remains open for public use.
