Quad Cities, IA/IL – Widespread severe storms are likely today, especially between 5 PM and 11 PM, as multiple rounds of storms are expected to impact the region. The National Weather Service (NWS) has placed nearly the entire Quad Cities area under a Moderate Risk, or level 4 of 5, for severe weather.
According to the NWS, all hazards are possible this afternoon and evening, including strong tornadoes, damaging winds over 70 mph, and very large hail of 2 inches or larger in diameter. Additionally, flash flooding may occur, and a Flood Watch has been issued for areas of eastern Iowa, including Cedar Rapids and Iowa City.
The first round of storms is ongoing and will continue north of Highway 30 and west of I-80 in northeast Iowa. The second round is expected from 1 PM to 6 PM along and north of I-80, with low confidence in severe weather occurrence. The final and most severe round is predicted from 6 PM to 11 PM, moving in from the west, with the highest confidence in occurrence and strength.
