Kentucky State Police Mourns Loss of Veteran Trooper in Fatal Crash Tuesday Morning

Madisonville, KY – Kentucky State Police Post 2 announced the tragic loss of Trooper Jonathan Johnson, 48, from Bowling Green, who died in an off-duty accident earlier today, April 30, 2024. The incident was confirmed by the Warren County Coroner, who pronounced his death at 10:48 a.m. CT. 

A respected nine-year veteran, Trooper Johnson was assigned to Muhlenberg County after graduating from Cadet Class 92. His service included time at the Madisonville and Bowling Green posts, earning him the Detective of the Year award in 2019. Governor Andy Beshear expressed deep sorrow over the loss, extending condolences to Johnson’s family and colleagues.

“Our hearts are heavy as we mourn Trooper Johnson’s untimely death due to a motorcycle crash,” said Captain Derek Smith of KSP Post 2. Funeral arrangements will be announced later, while Post 3 handles the crash investigation. Trooper Johnson is survived by his wife and two children.
