AURORA, IL – Wesley United Methodist Church in Aurora marked the nationwide observance of Girl Scout Sunday on March 10, showcasing the local spirit and commitment of the Girl Scouts.

The event saw participation from approximately 25 Girl Scouts, alongside their leaders, parents, and friends, who took an active role in the morning worship. Their contributions included lighting candles, acting as greeters and ushers, and receiving special recognition during the service. The Scouts also provided refreshments for a reception held after the worship, fostering community engagement and fellowship.

The celebration brought together Scouts from various local troops, including those based at Wesley, Freeman Elementary School, Washington Middle School in Aurora, and Sugar Grove United Methodist Church, highlighting the widespread involvement in the scouting movement within the community.

Lead Pastor Tammy Scott led a prayer honoring the dedication and contributions of Girl Scouting, emphasizing the organization’s role in nurturing leadership and positive values among young women. Girl Scout Sunday not only marks the beginning of Girl Scout Week, running from March 10-16 but also leads up to the celebration of the Girl Scouts’ birthday on March 12.

The Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois (GSNI), which includes nearly 13,000 members across 16 counties, plays a pivotal role in developing leadership skills among its 9,000 girl and 4,000 adult members. GSNI extends its support through 32 geographic service areas, providing resources, support, and training to foster the Girl Scout leadership experience. This network of volunteers, many of whom serve as troop leaders, ensures that Girl Scouting remains a welcoming and inspiring environment for all girls in Northern Illinois.
