Benton County, IN – Schools in Benton County, Indiana, are closed today due to challenging winter conditions. The Benton County Sheriff’s Office has been actively assisting the school corporation in assessing road safety.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, East/West roads are experiencing drifts of snow, while roads at higher elevations have been cleared by the wind. However, the ditches alongside these roads are filled with snow, posing risks. North/South roads are primarily affected by reduced visibility due to blowing snow. The state roads, including US41, are snow-packed and slick, though traffic is currently moving.

Both INDOT and the Benton County Highway department are responding vigorously to the situation. The Sheriff’s Office warns of worsening conditions with subzero wind chills and increasing winds expected to intensify the snowfall later today. Residents are advised to stay updated with the Benton County Emergency Management and the National Weather Service for the latest weather updates.

The Sheriff’s Office urges residents to drive cautiously, ensure their vehicle windows are clear, and to reach out for assistance if needed, assuring prompt response despite the challenging conditions.
