BOURBONNAIS – The Kankakee County Animal Shelter may soon reside in town.

The Village approved a special use permit Tuesday that would allow Kankakee County to operate Animal Control on Mooney Drive.

The Kankakee County Board unanimously approved the purchase of the building at 134 Mooney Drive in April for $499,900 as a new home for Kankakee County Animal Control.

The building is in a commercialized area formerly home to Illinois Fire and Police Equipment.  A Day Care operates nearby with an outdoor playground.

It’s expected to take a year to move the organization into the new building.  No date or cost for the completion of that task has yet to be announced by the County.
