BOURBONNAIS, IL – Bourbonnais Elementary School District #53 (BESD #53) has announced a vacancy on its Board of Education, inviting interested individuals to apply for the position. The district’s mission focuses on collaboration, providing a safe learning environment, and inspiring students to become globally conscious learners.

To comply with legal requirements, the Board is responsible for appointing a successor within a 60-day period. The chosen applicant will serve on the Board of Education until the next consolidated general election in April 2025, completing the term of the former board member.

Residents who are passionate about education and wish to contribute to the growth of Bourbonnais Elementary School District #53 are encouraged to submit a one-page letter of interest and a resume by 3:30 pm on June 6, 2023. Submissions can be made through email, regular mail, fax, or hand delivery to the BESD #53 Central Office. To ensure receipt, each submission will be acknowledged.

The one-page letter of interest should address several key points. Firstly, applicants should explain their motivation for joining the Board of Education. Additionally, they should highlight what they can offer to Bourbonnais Elementary School District #53 and outline any prior experience or involvement they have had with the school district. Familiarity with the Board’s policies, including fiduciary responsibilities, conflict of interest, ethics, and gift ban, is also expected. These policies are available on the BESD #53 website.

It is important for all applicants to meet the legal requirements to become a member of the Board of Education. Eligible candidates must be United States citizens, at least 18 years old, registered voters, and residents of Illinois and District 53 for at least one year preceding the appointment. Holding an incompatible office or certain types of state or federal employment may render an individual ineligible. Furthermore, individuals defined as child sex offenders in state law are also ineligible. Candidates must file a Statement of Economic Interest with the Kankakee County Clerk.

Following the submission of letters of interest, the Board plans to interview selected candidates and appoint the new Board of Education member within the 60-day period.
