BOURBONNAIS, IL – Bourbonnais Firefighters IAFF Local 5035 and the Bourbonnais Fire Protection District have joined Project Fire Buddies, a nonprofit organization that aims to support and give back to children fighting critical illnesses.

Project Fire Buddies was founded in 2016 by Oak Forest Firefighters who witnessed firsthand the struggles of a young child battling cancer.

The organization runs an annual Christmas toy drive and delivers gifts to children’s homes in shiny fire trucks, police cruisers, and ambulances with sirens blasting and lights shining. They also sponsor multiple children throughout the year, visiting their “fire buddies” at home, playing games, reading books, and bringing gifts for special occasions.

With the addition of the Bourbonnais Fire Protection District, Project Fire Buddies will be able to help even more children in need. The organization’s volunteers go all out for the cause, bringing joy to kids struggling with serious illnesses during the holidays and throughout the year. Project Fire Buddies has expanded rapidly since its inception and invites other fire and police departments to join its mission.

Project Fire Buddies has been fortunate to have the support of several celebrities and organizations, including the Chicago Blackhawks, Chicago White Sox, and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who have helped provide once-in-a-lifetime experiences for some of their “fire buddies.”

The nonprofit organization’s goal is to make sure children fighting critical illnesses are not alone in their battle, and with the addition of Bourbonnais Fire Protection District, they are one step closer to achieving it.
