Bourbonnais, IL – Addressing the challenge of unscheduled migrant arrivals, the Bourbonnais Village Board is taking decisive action. In a recent meeting, the board proposed an ordinance to fine intercity buses up to $750 for each unscheduled passenger dropped off in the village.
This measure follows an incident involving a Texas-based bus company that dropped a group of migrants in nearby Kankakee. Village Attorney Patrick Dunn highlighted the ordinance’s intent to manage the drop-offs, citing the village’s limited resources to accommodate unexpected migrant arrivals.Â
The board’s move signals a broader trend among local communities adopting similar strategies to regulate migrant transportation. The ordinance is set for a second reading and potential approval in an upcoming board meeting.
