BOURBONNAIS – Tooth decay is silently reaching epidemic proportions in Illinois, with a staggering 22% of third graders affected by untreated decay.
Responding to this health crisis, the Delta Dental of Illinois Foundation’s “Land of Smiles” program made a visit to Bourbonnais Elementary School Wednesday. There, alongside a visit to Montessori Magnet School, a total of 632 students were introduced to the captivating yet educational world of characters like Captain Super Grin and Terri Tooth Fairy.
While the entertaining aspects are evident, the program’s primary goal is to confront the growing concern of poor oral health among youngsters. This initiative endeavors to influence over 30,000 children annually, emphasizing essential oral hygiene habits.
Each student, post-performance, also receives an oral care kit to set them on a path of proper dental care. To further explore this initiative or to advocate for improved oral health in your area, visit Land of Smiles.
