BOURBONNAIS, IL—Get ready for an autumn extravaganza like no other! The Bourbonnais Township Park District is thrilled to unveil the long-awaited details of their 10th Annual Scarecrow Contest and Festival, set to enthrall visitors on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at the enchanting Perry Farm Park.

The festivities will kick off at Perry Farm Park, located at 459 N. Kennedy Dr., Bourbonnais, from 10:00 a.m. until noon on September 23.

Enthusiastic scarecrow creators can begin registering for the contest from Tuesday, September 5. The $30 registration fee covers the Scarecrow frame, offering participants a sturdy foundation to bring their whimsical ideas to life. Visit the Perry Farm House in person between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., Monday through Friday, to secure your spot in the contest.

Dive into the creative spirit with various contest categories to choose from, including Business, Non-Profit (School, Youth), and Individual/Family. Each category beckons with exciting cash prizes for the winners. Scarecrows will find their designated spots on Thursday, September 21, or Friday, September 22.

The Scarecrow Festival, a central highlight of the event, promises an engaging array of activities catering to all ages. Over 100 charming scarecrows will adorn the fence posts of Perry Farm Park, setting a whimsical scene. Children can revel in barrel rides, delight in face painting, and try their hand at crafting their very own scarecrow masterpiece.

Be sure to cast your vote for the People’s Choice award during the Scarecrow Festival between 10 a.m. and noon. Every vote cast will be a $1 contribution, with all proceeds graciously channeled to the Ascension Saint Mary Breast Foundation, a noble cause.

Not only that, but the Scarecrow Festival coincides with the return of the Fall Art Stroll, a captivating partnership with the Community Arts Council of Kankakee County. From 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., attendees can immerse themselves in an inspiring showcase of homemade fine arts, celebrating the breadth of creative expression.

As part of the Fall Art Stroll, visitors can relish in a dedicated Kids Zone, indulge in a delectable variety of Food Trucks, and savor Live Entertainment, all contributing to the vibrant tapestry of fall festivities.

Dr. Edward Piatt, Executive Director, aptly sums up the essence of the event, saying, “The 10th Annual Scarecrow Contest and Festival is more than an event; it’s an opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate the beauty of autumn, artistic ingenuity, and the spirit of togetherness. Save the date and join us for the celebration of fall.”
