Coal City, IL – A car driven by 39-year-old Kathryn Stirbis reportedly came to a stop just feet away from a bustling school playground at Coal City Intermediate School last Friday.

Children were actively playing when Stirbis, a resident of Coal City, reportedly lost control of her vehicle, which jumped the curb and raced across the grass, halting narrowly short of the playground area. Remarkably, no injuries were reported.

The Coal City Police Department revealed that the incident occurred at approximately 11:30 a.m. Stirbis’s blood alcohol concentration was found to be nearly three times over the legal limit.

She faces charges of driving under the influence and improper lane usage and was released pending a future court appearance. The close call has sparked relief and concern among parents and school officials alike.
